Ok, so I wanted to review this before my trip and now I feel like I have to because A) the last few things I've reviewed have been awful and B) I'm almost done with this blend. This is the first tea I've bought from Teavana and I have to say, that place is expensive. I know that I'm supposed to mix this blend with something else but you know what? I don't care. Plus, I love blueberry tea and have never tried green Rooibos before (it's supposed to be a more mild version of the red).
Outsides: Unlike pretty much all of the other teas I've reviewed, this one doesn't come in a container (unless you count a paper bag as a container). If you don't have a local tea shop where you can buy loose-leaf blends, it's kinda cool that you can pick the amount you get. Anyway, the smell is....AMAZING!!! It's so sweet and blueberry-ish and just fills your room with sunshine and happiness. It's kind of a darker pinkish-redish color.
Insides: This, to me, is a good example of a tea that's expensive but worth it's money. The blueberry flavor and scent is strong and it's almost like drinking a juice, resulting in something that can (if you want) be reduced to make a strongly-flavored iced tea. There are other flavors mixed in, like hibiscus and the green rooibos makes a good non-bitter but not too heavy blend.
Overall: I think this tea is a good crowd-pleaser. For loose-leaf, it is a bit pricy for 6.95 for 2 oz, but it's fruity and fun and doesn't disappoint. I would buy it again as a gift for myself.
My Rating: Buy! Here's the site: Teavana
It's funny, I really do not like blueberries in any context except fresh. I'm not even a fan of blueberry muffins, and I love blueberry muffins. I love eating blueberries raw though, and also including them in fruit salads.
ReplyDeleteBut I actually liked this fruit blend. It didn't taste much like blueberries to me...which was good because I don't like the cooked / dried blueberry smell. I noticed that this blend also contains black currants, a berry that has a very strong, pungent aroma, and one that I like very much. Twinings also makes a black tea blend flavored with black currant, and I like it very much. So that may explain why I like this blend so much.
I would really recommend trying green rooibos, if you can get your hands on some pure green rooibos. I've had very good samples from Rishi (since discontinued), Upton Tea, and Mountain Rose Herbs (which offers the best price and was also top-notch in terms of flavor).
I'll have to try some Green Rooibos. Rooibos has been something I was scared of drinking because of a bad brand I got a while ago with the worst lemon flavoring, but as I try more teas, it becomes more appealing. It's a nice base for different flavors.
DeleteJust to let you know, blueberries can be a tricky thing in pastries. If you buy blueberry muffins in a store, it's possible that they're artificial (they even say something like chunked blueberries in the ingredients so you think it's some kind of natural product). I prefer blueberries whole in cakes or as a nice preserve. Just be aware that a lot of grocery store brand baked goods don't have real blueberries in them.
